A Business Owners Guide to TikTok

TikTok is arguably one of the most popular social media platforms. Whether you’re completely new to TikTok or you’re a seasoned pro, the use of TikTok holds a lot of opportunity for your business to boost reach and sales.

First, your business needs to create a business account. A business account is different from a normal account and here’s why - business accounts have access to special features and tools to utilize like:

1.     Access to analytics:

The most beneficial tool that TikTok offers business accounts is the analytics tool.  Analytics allow businesses to track their video performance and identify which content viewers engage with most. This information tells businesses which kind of content they should continue making to receive the most attention.

2.     Reduces Copyright Risk:

While using a business account, TikTok limits the sounds and music choices that are available for use. While this may seem like a bad thing, it’s actually the opposite. This ensures your business avoids any issues that could arise from using copyrighted music.

3.     Post Scheduler Tool:

TikTok business accounts have access to a post scheduler tool. This allows businesses to create content, decide when they want it to post, and let TikTok do the rest. This makes balancing a business and social media a breeze.

Let’s talk profile. When creating your account, make sure your username and profile picture represent your business. Try to use the same picture or graphic that you use for other platforms, like Instagram or Facebook. If you have one, include your website link in your bio.

Next comes creating content.  To get the most attention to your page and your business, try these tips:

1.     Show the importance of your video in the first few seconds. TikTok is a platform where people are scrolling past videos quickly if they aren’t hooked in the first few seconds.

2.     High quality videos make a difference. This doesn’t mean you need a professional camera, in fact, using a smartphone is best since that’s what the majority of users create content with. What you should have is quality lighting and a good microphone, if you’re recording sound.

3.     Use trending sounds. When your business participates in trends, it’s more likely that your content will be shared and show up on For You Pages (which is a good thing). To find these sounds, do some research by spending time and scrolling on TikTok.

4.     If you can, tap into a culture. Cultures are groups on TikTok that are interested in certain things, like makeup or crocheting. Videos in these cultures often use hashtags to connect to the group they’re a part of. If your business fits into a culture, use a hashtag yourself!

5.     Pay attention to analytics. These tools are there to help your business. Analytics show when your target audience is on TikTok the most, which would be the best time for you to post content.

TikTok’s unique algorithm proves to be beneficial for businesses because of the way it shares content. TikTok pushes out content that relates to specific interests, which allows your brand to be seen by a wide audience. The best part about it- no additional work is required of you. As you post consistently, with the help of the handy post scheduler tool, you’ll see your audience grow.
